Day 13: Daniel

Okay, just so you know, there are two things. One is, I love shopping for ingredients. Today, I was making roasted eggplant and hummus, a warmed spinach salad, and roasted corn. Most of the ingredients are from a local farm, but I also had to stop at a market to get olive oil and tahini. On the shelf next to my key ingredients were about seven different cans of prepared fava beans. Yumm...maybe next time.

I also realized that this is not a walking city/town/state. If I want to meet people, I have to go places - either places with higher traffic or places like stores. I wonder how this will shift when I head to the east coast tomorrow.

On top of being a food market, the place I went to - the local Latin* and Arab food market - also had a cowboy boot shop. Yeah!! This is Daniel. He's a traveling vendor up from California. He totally had me pegged for the cowgirl that I really am - from when I walked in. First, asking where I'm from, then if I wanted boots, THEN, if I wanted to look through the catalogue from which I could order boots. Although I admire people who can wear cowboy boots, and a small part of me wishes I could, I sadly cannot. It was however, fun to talk for a bit.
